Ambur taluk police were on routine patrolling near Somalapuram when they noticed the six persons loading sand from the Palar river.
The area from where sand was being loaded was a cemetery for the Hindus. Locals had earlier complained that the illegal sand quarrying from the cemetery was creating problems as in some cases, when sand was quarried, it resulted in the buried bodies coming to the surface.
The arrested were identified as Prabakaran (29), Govindan (24), Raja (37), Karthikeyan (28), Govindaraj (56) and Kesavaraj (38), all of A Kaspa area. A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
