Accordingly, the Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Department of the Revenue Department will develop a new syllabus, textbook and training modules by involving the experts in the field of disaster management.
In addition, the government is also taking steps to include skill-based training modules in Class 12 textbooks.
“We have already implemented new syllabus in this academic year for Class 1, 6, 9 and Class 11. Likewise, the government is planning to release textbooks carrying new curriculum by next year for other classes,” an official from State Council Educational Research and Training said.
The official said after 2015 deluge, the government felt it was necessary to impart intensive knowledge about disaster management to the school students so that they will be prepared during calamity.
“SCERT had already reviewed the content on disaster management incorporated in the social sciences textbook of Class 7 to 12 by the experts from various departments of director of disaster management, faculty members of JRD Tata School of Disaster Studies and Save the Children, an NGO,” the official added.
“Efforts have been taken to incorporate the content of disaster management in Class 11 and Class 12 in subjects such as Tamil, English and Geography textbooks and source book of Diploma in Elementary Teacher Education,” the official said.
