The case pertains to that of a street corner meeting in which Mugilan coordinator of Cauvery River Protection Committee participated on April 23, 2017 in Seethapatti Colony Santhai Thidal in Aravakurichi.
A case was registered nearly eight months later in December last year.
Mugilan was alleged to have spoken in a manner inciting hatred on state government and on the Centre in the meeting which was arranged in celebration of birth anniversaries of Dr Ambedkar and Bharathidasan by Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam and Periyar Manavara Kazhagam.
Police claimed that Mugilan drew parallels between Kashmiris and Tamils while asserting that the very institution of India itself is a lie. “The Indian government is continuously involved in destroying Tamil Nationalism and that Tamil Nadu continues to concede the orders from the Centre,” a policeman present quoted Mugilan.
Mugilan has reportedly sought to know from the children present in the meeting whether they are Indians or Tamils. “Indian government is taking several consistent efforts to destroy Tamil Nadu by bringing projects like Neutrino. People of Seethapatti are chased away due to the betrayal of the government. The only weapon we have is protest. Jallikattu protesters who gathered in thousands rattled the state and even chased away Chief Minister,” the policemen quoted Mugilan further.
He said Mugilan also invoked the participants to take an oath in the name of Periyar that their country is Tamil Nadu and should drive the Indian government out. “We cannot continue to live in India and that India is no longer our country,” the policemen quoted Mugilan.
The speech of Mugilan instigated panic and confusion among the locals besides milling hatred against the state and Union governments and it was against peace and tranquillity, according to the policemen who has filed a complaint in this regard.
