Sethurajan, who hails from a remote village in Ramanathapuram district, says working for NASA was hardly satisfying as teaching children in villages about science, the reason for which he left the space agency.
Having come up in life from a rural area through poverty and adversity, Sethurajan says he did not recieve any extra guidance during his higher studies. Although he passed his examinations, he said he had failed to understand the practical applications of engineering concepts. This was a situation which Sethurajan did not want other students to go through. Hence, he is now producing free scientific explanatory videos on YouTube called “Let’s Make Engineering Simple”.
“In United States, learning is made very simple to the students using technology. Upon seeing that, I thought of making the first video on YouTube explaining the practical implications of the Bernoulli’s principle. When I got students’ positive response after uploading few more videos, I quit my job,” he said.
Premanand, who started uploading videos in 2013, not only answers queries posed by students in a simple way, but also teaches them on how to apply science in real life. Apart from working with students of more than 60 government schools and colleges, he also help teachers in understanding the concepts.
