The suicide took place on Friday after which the headmistress Ramamani and the class teacher Meenakshi Sundareswari were interrogated by police in the presence of district Collector SA Raman and the education officials.
After the enquiry, Raman and the Chief Educational Officer S Mars informed mediapersons that both of them have been suspended and further action would be taken after the enquiry is completed. It may be noted that all four students had scored more than 400 marks in their SSLC exams.
Meanwhile, the parents and relatives of the deceased refused to accept the bodies after the post mortem at the Vellore government medical college hospital and demanded the arrest of those responsible. After convincing them that action would be taken, the bodies were taken to Panapakkam. Shops in Panapakkam put up shutters to condemn the incident.
The villages, who staged a protest, demanded a compensation of Rs 25 lakh each and government job to a member in the family of the deceased persons, removal and arrest of those responsible for the girls’ deaths. The crowd dispersed after being told that the issue would be conveyed to the Collector, who in turn would inform the state government.
Meanwhile police were posted at both the Vellore government medical college hospital and at Panapakkam to prevent any untoward incidents.
