Talking to reporters after attending a marriage function in Kancheepuram, the Minister said the DMK approached the court when the local body elections were announced and stopped the polls. Again, the party had filed a petition in the Madras High Court against announcing the RK Nagar by-poll date on the pretext of fake voters in the constituency.
“The AIADMK is ready to face the elections any time, but the DMK is afraid of the people”, he said.
Jayakumar also asserted that however hard the DMK might try, it could not capture power and the party would end up in defeat. Commenting on actor Kamal Haasan’s allegation that the government’s allocation of land for the extension of Ennore Harbour would block water flow and flood North Chennai, the Minister said the actor is well known for somersault and there was no need to worry about his criticism.
He said everyone has the right to express his or her opinion, but the views should be expressed in a civilised manner without hurting the opponents. He recalled that former chief minister J Jayalalithaa enacted a law to abolish the kandhuvatti menace and assured that the state would act on petitions filed by the people against those indulging in it. He also claimed that dengue had been brought under control.
Jayakumar also said, “Only the state government, which is ruling in the way shown by ‘Amma,’ has the right to present the gold armour for freedom fighter Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar on his guru pooja.”
