In a bid to spread constant awareness, state Health Minister Dr C Vijaya Baskar on Monday introduced the concept of anti-dengue day to be commemorated every Thursday and said, “Extra measures will be undertaken on that day every week to check the burden, especially in government institutions and offices.”
Starting Tuesday, Nilavembu Kashayam will be distributed in common places like bus stops, where people usually gather in large numbers.
“Water sanitation needs improvement from the Corporation to Gram Panchayats across the state. It should be seen to it that overhead tanks are kept clean and fumigation is done,” added the Minister.
Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan urged the public to focus on the prevention of breeding of mosquitoes, adding that all fever cases that have been reported across the state may not be dengue. “Dengue is no more a seasonal disease and measures have to be taken on a war footing to check it,” he added.
