According to the police, on May 4, P Parthipan (22), a resident of Acharampakkam and his lover Rohini (20) were coming back home, after celebrating the girl’s birthday, on a 2-wheeler, when Rohini’s dupatta got entangled into the bike’s wheel. Rohini was thrown off the bike and suffered fatal head injuries. Parthiban also suffered injuries and was admitted in a hospital.
Parthipan got discharged from the hospital and was standing on the road near Acharampakkam on Friday, when a 6-member gang hacked him with a knife. Parthipan died on the spot.
Later in the night, Parthipan’s elder brother Ramu climbed a cell phone tower in Acharampakkam. He refused to get down and demanded the police to arrest the assailants. He threatened to commit suicide if the arrest was delayed. He was convinced by the police and brought him down. Police said some of Rohini’s relatives were under the impression that the girl was murdered by Parthipan could have avenged her death.
