Dabang Delhi KC finished on top of the VIVO Pro Kabaddi 2019 table after playing out an enthralling 37-37 tie against U Mumba at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex here on Friday.
Naveen Kumar then got into his zone, sending U Mumba defenders Fazel Atrachali, Surinder Singh and Sandeep Narwal to the bench. His good show alongside an astute effort from the defence helped Delhi inflict the first all-out. After the opening 10 minutes, the scoreboard read 13-6 in favour of DD.
Youngster Naveen picked up five points in his next six raids as Delhi held a comfortable 11-point (24-13) advantage at the break. Right at the start of the second period, U Mumba suffered its second all-out. Following it, Naveen completed his 20th ‘Super 10’ for the season. Once he was made to stay away from the mat, DD started losing the plot.
The U Mumba defence grew in confidence and raider Abhishek Singh came up with successful one-point raids as the gulf between the two units reduced. U Mumba finally managed an all-out, with only seven points separating the teams. The men from Mumbai enforced another clean sweep to narrow down the gap to two points. Just before the buzzer raid, Delhi was leading by a point. But an unsuccessful dash by Ravinder Pahal on Abhishek tied the contest.
