Bengal Warriors booked its place in the Pro Kabaddi 2019 play-offs alongside topper Dabang Delhi as the former pipped Jaipur Pink Panthers 41-40 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium here on Sunday.
The host went into the half-time break with a tiny one-point (14-13) lead. But, Warriors came up with the goods when it mattered the most, with Maninder leading from the front. BW had a 11-point cushion with less than seven minutes on the clock and looked well set to get an easy PKL 7 win.
But the host had other ideas, making a final flourish. Despite a fantastic effort from raider Nilesh Salunke (15 points), Jaipur could not cross the line. In the first clash of the day, Fazel Atrachali-led U Mumba produced an all-round performance to beat Gujarat Fortunegiants 31-25 at the same venue. Abhishek Singh secured a ‘Super 10’ for U Mumba, which was miserly in its defence.
Cover defenders Surinder Singh and Harendra Kumar picked up vital points. Courtesy the result, U Mumba (53 points from 17 matches) jumped to fourth, while Gujarat is ninth with 39 points after 18 games.
