Tamil Thalaivas inflicted more misery on Telugu Titans after handing the home team its second successive defeat in Pro Kabaddi 2019.
In front of a boisterous crowd, Rahul Chaudhari put on a roaring performance against his former club, for which the yellow-clad faithful didn’t complain much. The Uttar Pradesh-based raider announced himself with a ‘Super 10’ as the Titans supporters gave him a standing ovation after the conclusion of the duel.
“Telugu fans have a special place in my heart and vice versa. I was very happy to see them cheering for me. Whenever I went on to raid, chants of ‘Rahul’ kept reverberating in my ears and that gave me confidence,” stated the ‘Best Raider of the Match’. Chief Bhaskaran revealed he used Rahul as the lead raider in the fixture as he had previously worked with the Titans defenders.
The retained Manjeet Chhillar of Thalaivas, on his part, contributed a ‘High 5’ for Tamil Nadu-based team. All players bar Ran Singh collected a minimum of two points each. Thalaivas will next lock horns with Dabang Delhi at the same venue on Thursday. Earlier, Gujarat Fortunegiants trounced Bengaluru Bulls in its first match of PKL 7, registering a commanding 42-24 success.
The well-drilled Gujarat defence was a class apart, amassing a match-winning 17 points. Captain Sunil Kumar (6) and family had a field day at the office, with him and his sibling Sumit (4) pocketing 10 points in total. GFG forced three all-outs and that was more than enough to propel it to victory.
There were three milestone alerts during the contest, with Sachin, Sunil (both Fortunegiants) and Pawan Kumar Sehrawat (bulls) completing them in their respective departments. While Sachin and Pawan both breached the 350-mark in terms of ‘Raid Points’, cover defender Sunil got past 250 ‘Tackle Points’ in PKL history.
Gujarat head coach Manpreet Singh said his team exacted revenge on Bulls for last season final’s loss. “It’s a sweet victory. We have been waiting for it for the past six months. I am delighted that we won by a considerable margin. We have always backed our youngsters to come good and you will see more new players popping up this year,” he told mediapersons at the post-match presser.
