Is Magnus Carlsen the best-ever chess player the world has produced? Former World champion Viswanathan Anand feels he has reason to believe so.
Anand said what makes Carlsen unique is his ability to fight till the very end, even in equal positions. Anand will compete in Paris and St Louis in the next two months. ChessKid CEO Carey Fan said he did not look beyond Anand when the company decided to launch the programme in India. “It is a website for kids to play chess. It is a part of chess.com and Anand will be involved in shaping the product,” stated Fan.
Anand broadly touched on his role in the product. “I will be basically curating the content,” he explained and added he would be part of the online research team to assess how it reaches out to the kids. “When I was a kid, I used to go to a club to play tournaments. I played a lot of blitz chess there as I had no other means to assess where I stood,” Anand recollected.
“The way kids approach chess now is vastly different from my time. The method I adopted then was ideal for me under the prevailing conditions. At the same time, I have to say the new technological tools are of great help to the youngsters when they go through different levels in their career.” Fan said ChessKid has plans to market the product in schools, especially in seven or states across India.
