Calicut Heroes cemented its place in the Pro Volleyball League with a 3-2 (15-11, 15-11, 15-7, 12-15, 11-15) win over Black Hawks Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium here on Sunday.
Calicut had an 8-5 lead in the first set going into the first Technical Time Out (TTO). But, Hyderabad scored three successive points to level the scores at eight each. Both teams were on even keel till 10 all, but Calicut ran away with the set after that, winning it 15-11.
In the second set, Heroes had a three-point advantage at 6-3. Just like the first set, Hyderabad drew parity, at six all. Calicut then closed out the set 15-11, giving it a two-set advantage.
The third set was a do-or-die one for Hyderabad, but it surrendered meekly, losing it 7-15. With two sets remaining in the match, all it could play for was preventing a whitewash.
Hyderabad scripted a remarkable comeback in the fourth set to clinch it 15-12. Calicut gave a chance to its fringe players in the final set and Hyderbad made full use of it. It prevailed 15-11 and lost the encounter 2-3.
