Chennai Spartans would hope to post its second successive win in the Pro Volleyball League (PVL) when it takes on Kochi Blue Spikers at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Kochi on Monday.
Chennai has had a three-day break going into this contest. Naveen Raja Jacob and overseas recruit Rudy Verhoeff have been in good form for it, scoring 20 and 17 spike points in their last two encounters. GS Akhin’s return to form is also good news as it bolsters its all-round options. Rudy stated that the team is finally linking up well and working as a unit.
“We have the players, we have the experience and most importantly, we have the vigour to do well. We want to ensure that before we move to Chennai, we are well-placed to make it to the play-offs. Kochi is a strong team and even though it lost 0-5 (in its last match), we can’t write it off. We have to be cautious, but at the same time we will have to play our natural game,” said Rudy ahead of the clash.
Kochi will hope to bounce back and seal its spot in the final four of the six-team event. Its captain Mohan Ukkrapandian said his side had an off day during the match-up against Calicut.
“It was just a bad day in the office. Monday will be a new day and we will not look behind. We have to play to our potential against Chennai. I would also like to thank our supporters who have reposed faith in us and would urge them to keep believing in us.”
