Dabang Delhi finished its home leg on a high by beating Tamil Thalaivas 37-33 in the Inter-Zone Challenge Week of Vivo Pro Kabaddi Season 6.
The first half of the match saw Delhi take advantage of a weak Thalaivas defence. Meraj Sheykh picked up raid points at regular intervals to keep Delhi in front.
Every time Delhi threatened to go ahead, Ajay kept the contest alive with a stupendous raid performance. In the second half, Sukesh Hegde supported Ajay, but Thalaivas defence let the duo down. Meraj got ample support from Naveen Kumar, who scored eight crucial raid points for Delhi.
Meanwhile, UP Yoddha beat Haryana Steelers 30-29. Shrikant Jadhav and Prashant Rai scored eight points each to lead Yoddha to victory. Haryana’s Monu Goyat scored 11 points, but his effort went in vain. The defeat meant that Steelers can’t qualify for the play-offs now.
Steelers made a strong start and led for the majority of the first half. Shrikant got three points for UP Yoddha with a ‘Super raid’ as it trailed 5-7. With 12 minutes remaining in the first half, UP was trailing by two points. During the breather, Steelers led by the same margin.
In the second half, Steelers couldn’t do enough to keep its advantage intact. Vikas Kandola and Goyat kept picking raid points but UP Yoddha was in the ascendancy for most of the final 20 minutes.
The Vizag leg of PKL 6 starts on Friday, with host Telugu Titans taking on Gujarat Fortunegiants. That will be followed by a clash between Patna Pirates and Puneri Paltan.
