U Mumba won the Maharashtra derby on its third attempt in Pro Kabaddi League Season 6 as it defeated Puneri Paltan 31-22.
The match saw two of the highest scoring raiders of this season sit on the sidelines as both Puneri’s Nitin Tomar and U Mumba’s Siddharth Desai were harbouring injuries to their knee and shoulder respectively. Deepak Kumar Dahiya started the match with a running hand touch on Surender Singh in the first raid, but it was overturned by U Mumba in the next four minutes. U Mumba took a 5-1 lead in the fifth minute.
With two men on the mat, Puneri got a strong ‘Super Tackle’ on Darshan Kadian to make it 5-3 in the 6th minute. Puneri was inflicted with an all-out in the 11th minute courtesy a raid by Abhishek Singh. U Mumba took a nine-point lead into the break, with the scoreline reading 19-10.
Puneri came up with a change in tactics in the second half, working more on its defence. Shubham Shinde got an ankle hold on Vinod Kumar while More GB pulled him from reaching the midline in the first raid of the half, getting a ‘Super Tackle’. The deficit was reduced to four points by the 30th minute. Puneri continued to have just three men on the mat for a while, giving it a chance to get two points through a ‘Super Tackle’. The 32nd minute raid by Abhishek Singh was an important one as U Mumba inflicted another all-out. U Mumba maintained a sizeable lead for the rest of the encounter, winning it 31-22.
