Head coach Edachery Bhaskaran felt his side was punished for conceding points at the start of the final half. There was nothing much to separate between the two teams going into the half-time break. “At the start of the campaign, the defence was giving away too many points and we rectified that during the course of the Pune leg. Today (Friday), the first half was extremely competitive, but at the early minutes of the second (half), we gave away a few points and were chasing the game from there on,” said Bhaskaran during the post-match press conference.
Speaking on what went wrong in the last 20 minutes, Bhaskaran added, “In the first half, we were raiding quite well and staying in touch with the score, dictating the flow of the game. In the second half, its (Gujarat’s) defence put in an outstanding shift and that was the telling difference in the game.”
Thalaivas has just two wins to show for its efforts. The Chennai-based franchise will next square off against UP Yoddha in Greater Noida on November 2. Analysing his side’s next opponent in PKL 6, he said, “It (UP) has a fantastic raiding trio. So it’s going to be up to us to cut its raid point supply and stay focused throughout the match. Rishank Devadiga, who is a game changer, is its captain. It’s going to crucial for us to ensure that he doesn’t have a big performance, which will boost our chances of winning.”
