“Yes, this is the best one. I don’t want to say too much as the game panned out as it did. It was quite an emotional game for us,” Kohli said after the 75-run win which helped the Indians draw level in the fourmatch series.
“Everyone got along well. Talking about the head of the snake, the head did pretty well. It is not just about one individual here. This snake can sting from any direction. Some people need to keep that in mind,” he added, taking a veiled dig at Nathan Lyon’s comment about Kohli being the prized wicket.
Kohli lavished praise on the team’s bowlers for ensuring that Australia’s first innings lead was not too big.
Steve Smith’s dismissal in the second innings has stirred up a controversy after the Australian skipper called for DRS. Virat Kohli was not amused when Smith looked at the Aussie dressing room to give him the signal whether to review.
Dismissing Smith’s claims of a brain fade and adding that he had twice witnessed examples of Australia seeking off-field guidance for video reviews during his two brief stays at the crease in this Test, Kohli said it was contrary to the playing conditions of Test cricket, and a breach that he claims he reported to ICC match referee Chris Broad during the course of the match. “I saw that two times happening when I was batting out there,” Kohli said.
“I pointed it out to the umpires, that it’s happened twice and I have seen their (Australia’s) players looking up there for confirmation and that’s why the umpire was at him (Smith). “Because we observed that and we told the match referee as well, and we told the umpires they had been doing that for the last three days and that had to stop.
“There’s a line that you don’t cross on the cricket field, sledging and playing against the opponents is different. I don’t want to mention the word, but it falls into that bracket. I would never do something like that on the cricket field.”
Asked if that word was ‘cheating’, Kohli replied to his inquisitor without a hint of a smile: “I didn’t say that, you did.” About the match result, Kohli said they were not out there to prove anything to anyone but wanted to show themselves they can win from any situation. KL Rahul was named Man of the Match.
