In the backdrop of the massive attack on the US Capitol, a video of the Indian tricolour being waved among several American flags had also gone viral on social media, creating quite a furore and much debate.
Vinson at the Capitol rally
Chennai: It has now emerged that the Tricolour was raised by Vinson Palathingal, also known as Vincent Xavier, a native of Kochi. He is a Republican party member who now resides in Fairfax, Virginia. Vinson took to Facebook to share a post, which has now been deleted following widespread criticism against him for insulting the country by carrying the Tricolour to a violent protest. “Trump rallies are always a lot of fun. And today was not an exception. About 50 or so lawless people who breached the US Capitol perimeter by climbing the walls, breaking the windows and attacking police inside this sacred temple to American Democracy is not a reason to throw the million-plus peaceful protestors under the bus,” he had written in the now deleted post. According to his official website, Vinson currently serves as Vice President of FOMAA, the largest Malayali-member organisation in US. Interestingly, though he describes himself as “neutral” on Indian politics, he has been extremely critical of the Left Front in Kerala.
