The police said Akshaya (13), of Ottiyambakkam near Perumbakkam, was addicted to smartphone and her parents had asked her to minimise the use. On Saturday, while the girl was on phone, her mother scolded her.
Following that, on Sunday, the girl went missing along with a two-wheeler. Initially, the parents thought she might have gone to meet her friends but when she did not return till night, they filed a complaint at the Perumbakkam police station.
The police traced her mobile phone signal and found that Akshaya had visited Koyembedu bus terminal. After searching the premises, they recovered her two-wheeler from the bus stop. As most of the CCTV cameras were not functioning in the bus terminal, police could not find the girl and a special team was formed to trace her.
The police found her location to be in Coimbatore when she turned on her mobile phone on Tuesday.
Following that, the special team went to Coimbatore.
On Wednesday, police rescued the girl and was brought to the Perumbakkam police station. Later Akshaya was handed over to her parents.
