With the weakened deep depression of Burevi stalled near Rameswaram, parts of Chennai saw steady rains from midnight, as a result the Puzhal lake is filling up too fast. District authorities have decided to discharge the excess water as more than 2 thousand cubic feet of water is coming into the lake every second.
District Collector Ponnaya announced that the water reserve of Puzhal lake will be opened at 3 pm today as a precautionary measure.
In the recent update, it was also reported that due to heavy showers in Chennai, the Puzhal lake is nearing a capacity of 21.20 ft and hence it is planned to release nearly 500 cubic feet of water per second by 3.00 pm. A flood alert has also been issued to the people of Narawarikuppam, Vadakara, Grantline, Puhal, Vadaperumbakkam and Manjambakkam villages near the banks of the lake.
