A division bench comprising Justice Vineet Kothari and Justice MS Ramesh, before whom the plea relating to the beautification of Marina beach came up on Wednesday, made the observation after Additional Advocate General SR Rajagopal submitted that the beaches would remain closed until the end of this month.
The bench led by Justice Vineet Kothari expressed displeasure over the delay in opening the beaches despite several relaxation having been announced. He then indicated that if the government failed to take an early decision on reopening the beaches, the court would pass suitable orders.
The bench also recorded the submission of the AAG based on the status report filed by the Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner that certain other institutions like Anna University have been asked to furnish the requisite reports for obtaining necessary clearances from the CRZ regulatory authority for constructions to be undertaken for the development of Marina beach, Loop Road, fish market, etc.
Based on the assurance from the AAG that proper time frame and plans would be placed before court for implementation and execution of these projects by November 18, the bench adjourned the case to that date.
