Sources said Kutti Mohan, a DMK functionary, used to draw poll graffiti on the wall of a building on Netaji Street at Lakshmipuram near Puzhal ahead of every election with the landlord’s permission. Six months ago, the local BJP leadership had taken the building on rent and was running the party’s Tiruvallur south district office.
So, when Kutti Mohan was tagging the wall for DMK ahead of the polls, BJP’s Madhavaram zone traders’ wing secretary Arun, opposed it, claiming that they have permission from the house owner to draw BJP poll graffiti on the wall.
On Friday evening, after a quarrel erupted between Arun and Mohan, the latter allegedly assaulted Arun and fled the scene. As the information about the clash spread, BJP functionaries, including local leader ‘Chennai’ Siva, gathered in front of Puzhal police station in large numbers. They demanded the police to immediately arrest Mohan.
Soon, all the inspectors in Madhavaram police district reached the spot to ensure that the incident did not blow up into a law and order problem. The Puzhal police assured the protesting BJP cadre that action would be taken against Mohan. Following this, they dispersed.
When contacted, officials said that they registered a case against Mohan and were looking for him.
