Though the government had permitted as many as 200 flights — both arrival and departure — at the Chennai airport from October, since the passengers’ count was low not all flights were operated. On Friday, for the first time in seven months since the lockdown began, the footfall of the passengers crossed 15,000.
Airport sources said 83 flights departed on Friday while 83 flights were scheduled for arrival, and as many as 15,350 passengers had booked their tickets in all 166 flights.
However, a few domestic flights which arrived from other states had only very less number of passengers. The flight from Mangalore and Kannur arrived with only 12 passengers each. While a flight from Delhi arrived with 25 passengers, another flight from Bengaluru arrived with 26 passengers. Several other domestic flights which arrived from Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Vijayawada and Hubli also arrived with less than 50 passengers.
