“Moideen’s uncle has business dealings with the trader and he had accompanied his uncle to meet the trader earlier. So, he went to the trader claiming that his uncle sent him and sold the jewellery. However, the trader informed Moideen’s uncle about the gold,” said police.
T Nagar Deputy Commissioner Hari Kiran Prasad who came to know about it got in touch with police officials in Mumbai and managed to retrieve the jewellery. The gold bars weighing about 1.2 kg reached Chennai on Monday and a hunt has been launched for Moideen.
The main accused is relative of the victims Noorul Huque and Monisha of Saradhambal street in T Nagar, who stayed with them for 10 days before carrying out the dacoity by tying the couple and gagging them.
