The market has been functioning here for more than 10 decades. Following the coronavirus outbreak, the market was closed five months ago and shifted to Vaiyavur village near Kancheepuram. But it was later moved to Pachaiyappa’s college ground in Nazarathpet, which is 7km away from Kancheepuram and made it difficult for the patrons to reach the facility. This lead to a huge loss for the vendors doing business at the market.
On Monday, the market was reponed at its original location for the public. The vendors were asked to maintain social distancing between the shops and wear masks. The market was decorated and vendors celebrated the opening by bursting crackers.
