Anna Technical and Research University shall comprise College of Engineering Guindy, Alagappa College of Technology, Madras Institute of Technology and School of Architecture and Planning at Chennai.
On the other hand, Anna University shall continue to provide affiliation for engineering colleges in the state. The division has been aimed at creating administrative ease to manage and monitor affiliated colleges. The Bill pointed out that managing the affairs of the engineering colleges affiliated to Anna University was becoming a difficult task for professors of the institution. The government in December last year had constituted a committee comprising five ministers and three IAS officers as members to look into the possibility of splitting the university into two. The Bill further added that the Anna Technological and Research University will provide facilities and other opportunities for higher education in engineering, technology, and allied sciences by instruction, training, research, development, and extension.
State-owned universities to conduct online exams: Following approval from the expert committee, the government has given a nod to all State-owned universities, including Anna University, to conduct terminal semester exams for final year students online. A senior official from the Higher Education Department told DT Next on Wednesday, “The committee also asked the varsities to conduct all pending final year exams on or before this September.”According to him, University of Madras, Madurai Kamaraj University, Anna University, Bharathiar University, Bharathidasan University, Alagappa University, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Periyar University, Tamil Nadu Open University, Thiruvalluvar University, Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University, Annamalai University, and the Directorate of Technical Education (DOTE) will conduct online exams. Following specific request, Mother Teresa Women’s University, Kodaikanal, was allowed to conduct final year semester exams in blended mode.
