Professor AK Prakash Mittal, the member secretary of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) launched the new model in engineering education and formally handed over the certificate of autonomous status to the founder and chancellor of Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Science Dr NM Veeraiyan and the college director Dr S Rajesh.
The new model called “MILA” (Multiple Integrated Learning Algorithm) does not have long monologue lectures, claim sources. In its small class concept, it allows only 30 students in a class as opposed to 60 in other colleges. This facilitates better interaction between faculty and students and offers fully flexible choice-based credit system.
Other features of this model include focus on the level of the learners — a differential treatment based on the capabilities to empower all active roles of students to learn.
Support to learner — a key role of the faculty at the college — to support, inspire, guide, facilitate and help students to accomplish on their own merit making the faculty only a facilitator and motivator.
The new system also removes physical, attitudinal and pedagogical barriers, encouraging learning with an open mind. It also lays emphasis on on Arts, Theatre, Heritage, Nationalism, Creativity, Social Service, Environmental Evangelism, among others.
