With social distancing and sanitisation having become the keys to control the spread of coronavirus, Tiruvallur district police are embracing technology to ensure both are followed. While they recently came up with a cheaper setup to make disinfectants for police stations in the district, they have now installed devices at the temporary wholesale market in Tirumazhisai to ensure social distancing.

Chennai: The device called Iris and developed by Global Thermal Control Systems Pvt Ltd, has been installed in three shops on a trial basis, an official said. “If two people stand within 2.5m of each other, the device will raise an alarm,” added the official. Rajesh, one of the founders of Global Thermal Control Systems, said the device works on motion capturing technology and each device will cover an area of 400 sq ft and is ideal for shops. The device will also store the video and cops can access live footage on their phones.
