Two days after the flutter over an incident where meat was thrown in front of two temples in Coimbatore, a social media post carrying his photograph and alleged that he was the perpetrator behind it has put a Chennai man in trouble. He has lodged a complaint with the cybercrime cell seeking action against the ones involved.
Elango is the producer of the upcoming web series, Godman, the title and perceived subject of which have not gone down well with some Hindu outfits. “It is possible that those people are using this to attack me,” he said.
“An FB profile called Haja Ala is using my photograph to falsely identify me as one Hari who allegedly threw pork at temples in Coimbatore. The FB account holder is provoking his contacts to attack me on the basis of false info, and it is being circulated widely. I request you to pull down the post and punish him under the law,” Elango said in his complaint.
His sister Leena Manimekalai, a writer-filmmaker, said that the social media posts that portray him as the accused could prove dangerous to him and family. “It is a criminal offence. Hope the police will act soon and arrest the suspects,” she said.
