He reportedly did it to enable another private party to register the land in his name. According to the DVAC FIR, the official identified as P Vanjinathan intentionally removed patta number entry of one K Vijayan from the official records to favour the second suspect, MR Vasagar of Chrompet. This happed after Vijayan refused to sell his land to the latter, despite advice from Vanjinathan, who was working as firka surveyor in 2014.
Vijayan and his brother found that their land revenue records were missing from the computers in the Sholinganallur taluk office, despite having patta, chitta, adangal and field measurement book details with them. The property in question is a 2400 sq ft land purchased for Rs 1.68 lakh in Ottiyambakkam village by Vijayan.
Following this, he lodged a complaint with the DVAC in February 2018 and after a two-year-long preliminary enquiry, the DVAC recently registered an FIR citing Vanjinathan and Vasagar as suspects under various sections of IPC, including cheating, creating false documents and criminal misconduct. Both the suspects have also been under provisions of Information Technology Act and Prevention of Corruption Act.
