These furries, dressed in couture clothing by ace designers as they move in style with their human companions in coordinated attires.
Their aim? To help a few other furry friends find homes and raise funds for animal welfare groups and shelters in the city.
Ideated by popular dancer Jeffery Vardon, the fashion show aims to raise money to support the work being done by the NGO, People for Animals (PFA), and a few other animal shelters and independent rescuers.
“I have worked with PFA for a short period. Later, I wanted to do a pet fashion show, wherein the pets could be dressed by professional designers.
All the designers and the organisers who have come on board to host the event have one thing in common – their love for animals,” Jeffery tells DT Next.
Well-known designers like Chaitanya Rao, Sidney Sladen, Tina Vincent, Richa Goenka, Naomi, Vibha, Tanya and Deepika will be lending their creativity in designing the clothing.
“The designers will be creating pet clothing particularly for the event,” notes Jeffery, who takes care of three Indie dogs.
The event, being organised along with the members of a city-based animal welfare group, Duchess Furry Friends, is being supported by Sanchu Animal Hospital in Adyar set up by veteran business leader CK Ranganathan, among other organisations.
“We hope to blend fashion with pets and ultimately contribute to animal welfare. We will also be identifying and honouring a few veterinarians who are working tirelessly for animals on the streets.
Vets are rarely recognised for their work,” remarks Lata Prakash, a member of the Duchess Furry Friends, and one of the event organisers.
An adoption corner at the event will have 20 dogs and cats looking for homes. One can expect a few rescued animals to also walk the ramp, adds Lata.
“The amount collected through Rs 100 entry ticket and the donations will be directed towards animals in need,” she stresses. The pet fashion show will be held on February 2 at Hotel Savera from 3 pm to 7 pm.
