Narcotics Intelligence Bureau CID (NIB-CID) officials on Wednesday arrested two Nigerian nationals, students of a private college in Kattankulathur, for supplying ganja to college students.
The arrested foreigners were identified as Ayooluwa David Adebakin, a third-year BBA student, and Olugu Olisaemeka Emmanuel, a second-year BSc student. The police said that they initiated action after receiving a tip-off about the sale of ganja among students.
Following this, the NIB-CID sleuths of Kancheepuram district, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Julius Caesar and inspector S Prabhakar, monitored the locality and nabbed the Nigerian nationals.
During questioning, the duo confessed that they collected cash from the students through payment apps like Google Pay and Phone Pe. The seven kg of ganja worth Rs 1 lakh was packed in small sachets, said police, who have also seized a weighing machine from their house. The duo was demanded in judicial custody.
Ganja peddlers arrested in Vadapalani, Red Hills
The Vadapalani police arrested two persons and seized 1.1 kg of ganja from them. The accused were identified as K Muthukumar (25) of Mettukuppam and C Augustine (23) of Vadapalani. Based on a tip-off, a police team secured the duo at Gangaiyamman Koil Street-Arcot Road junction on Tuesday evening. A two-wheeler was also seized from them, who were remanded in judicial custody.
Meanwhile, Red Hills police arrested three persons and seized two kg of ganja. The accused, Rajan (32) of Kanniyakumari, Venkatesan (32) of Red Hills and Barani Babu (32) of Tondiarpet, were secured near the government school at Padianallur on Tuesday evening.
Investigation revealed that they smuggled ganja from Andhra Pradesh and were selling it to school students in small packets, said the police. They were produced in Ponneri court and remanded in judicial custody on Wednesday.
