The investigation into the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) impersonation scam that surfaced last month at Government Theni Medical College has led to the arrest of yet another student on the same charge on Saturday. Sources from the Crime Branch CID team that is probing the case said they were searching for her father who went absconding.
She is the fifth medical student to be arrested in the NEET impersonation case.
According to sources, a detailed examination revealed that the student’s name was found in two NEET examination hall tickets. Priyanka and her proxy attended the examination at different location, said officials.
Besides the student, the CB-CID sleuths also interrogated Damodaran, the dean of the private medical college where Priyanka has been studying. The police are also on the lookout for her father who went absconding, sources added.
So far, the probe into NEET impersonation has led to the arrest of eight persons, including four students, since September when the scam came to light after the Dean of Government Theni Medical College lodged a complaint with Kanavilaku police. The case was later transferred from the local police to CB-CID when it became clear that the network behind the scam was spread across the State.
The first to be arrested was KV Udit Surya, a first year student of the Theni college, along with his father, a government service doctor. Subsequent investigations led to arrest of three more students, Rahul, Praveen and Irfan.
