A Bengaluru-based woman killed her six-year-old daughter by slitting the girl’s throat on the Marina beach on Wednesday. She also tried to kill her son and attempted suicide in the same manner.
According to them, Pavithra left her house in Bengaluru after a quarrel with her husband Chandrasekar and reached the city by bus. Around 7 am, visitors heard cries of the children near the shore behind the Vivekananda statue and found a woman slitting her neck with a razor blade. They thwarted her attempt and rushed all of them to a nearby hospital in an ambulance.
However, doctors declared Dhanushya dead on arrival. While Padmesh was admitted to the Institute of Child Health and Hospital for Children in Egmore, Pavithra is being treated at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital.
On information, the Marina police reached the hospital and sent Dhanushya’s body for autopsy. Inquiries revealed that Pavithra decided to go to her hometown in Madurai after a quarrel with her husband. However, she changed her mind and aboarded a bus to Chennai.
From CMBT, she reached Marina in an MTC bus and bought a blade to commit suicide. “She did not want her children to suffer after her death and decided to kill them, too,” the police said.
The Marina police alerted Chandrasekar, who works as a manager in an automobile firm and he reached the city on Thursday morning. He reportedly told the police that there were no major differences between them and added that Pavithra used to quarrel with him for petty issues.
