The underground electric cable project in Velachery is causing severe inconvenience to commuters and its residents. Even in areas where the work has been completed, unused cables have been left unattended, posing an accident risk to pedestrians.
Also, after giving connections in a few areas at Velachery, they did not close the pit, which poses a threat to the public. “During rainfall, it is scary to pass through this route, as there is traffic congestion and scope of someone falling in the pit looms large. We are tired of complaining to the officials,” said Vishnu P, another resident. Speaking to DT Next, a Tangedco official said, “We close the pit and give connection immediately after the work is completed. We haven’t completed the work in certain areas due to rain. We will ensure that steps are taken to better the situation soon.”
