Four calves were rescued from an illegal slaughterhouse by Almighty Animal Care Trust and the city police on Wall Tax Road on Thursday.
“We knew that he was lying. So we immediately rescued the calves and the police have given them a memo. Now, two calves are adopted by other rescuers,” he added.
There are many illegal slaughterhouses in the city, especially in North Chennai. However, there are no steps taken against the issue though slaughter of cows and calves is banned in Tamil Nadu, claimed activists. “Whenever we come across illegal slaughterhouses or get information from any rescuers or friends, we immediately rescue them. So far, we have rescued 10 calves from illegal slaughterhouses. We have also filed petition in the court regarding this issue,” said Vignesh.
He also said that butchers violate almost every rule in the book, including slaughtering animals in unlicensed shops.
