The Greater Chennai Corporation had signed a memorandum of understanding with the European Union to take part in International Urban Cooperation (IUC) programme on Wednesday.
According to a senior official of the Chennai Corporation, the MoU would help the city to exchange projects, experiences and technologies with Claremont-Ferrand. They would also partner with the French city to develop a local action plan.“Elected councillors and engineers of both cities can visit each other to share knowledge. We will also align our Smart City projects with international best practices, which would be beneficial for Chennai,” he said. Meanwhile, the delegation of EU assured the Chennai Corporation that they would provide funds for the city’s developmental projects.“EU, in association with all its member countries, has decided to create a bank. We have requested the representatives to fund some of our projects and they have agreed. We are expecting EU funds to redesign city roads as per the non-motorised transport policy,” the official added.
