An ITI student from Guindy died on the morning of his 18th birthday along with a 25-year-old man after the car they were travelling in collided head-on with a government bus near Mahabalipuram early Tuesday. Four others were injured in the incident.
They were speeding on the East Coast Road (ECR) and Raj was behind the wheels. Around 3.30 am when they were near Kadambadi village, Raj tried to overtake a truck in front of them when an SETC bus coming from the opposite direction collided with them.
In the impact, the car flew off the road and fell into a bit by the roadside. When the Mahabalipuram police arrived at the spot found Ilaya, who was at the front seat and Raj dead while the other 18-year-olds — Fraklin and Sarath — were injured. Driver of the SETC bus, Rajesh, and conductor Balu also suffered injuries and the front of the bus was severely damaged.
The police registered a case, retrieved the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination at Chengalpattu Government Hospital. Those hurt were also admitted there.
