As many as 46 seats were given for MBBS course in government colleges, while 2 seats were allotted for BDS course in government colleges on the first day of MBBS/BDS counselling for special categories — candidates with disabilities, children of ex-servicemen and sportspersons.
“A total of 48 students have been allotted seats for the special category after checking for the disability and nativity certificates. Seats reserved for sports category and children of ex-servicemen have been filled up completely,” said selection committee secretary Dr G Selvarajan.
A total of 5 percent of seats were reserved for physically handicapped, while 7 percent MBBS seats and 1 percent BDS seats under sports quota, and 10 percent MBBS seats and 1 percent BDS seats were for children of ex-servicemen.
Last year, as many as 82 medical course seats allotted for special category went unoccupied and were flowed to general category as only 40 students took up the seats out of the total 122 allotted at the counselling.
