This is an amazing time for women in comedy and they are being applauded for handling the genre in films, theatre, and even stand-up shows. Considering its popularity a team of seven college students has come together and started a YouTube channel called Pori Urundai that creates comic content that every person could relate with and also conveys a social message.
When it came to finalising a name for the channel, the team couldn’t find a better title than their favourite snack, pori urundai. Through the channel, Haritha and her friends aim to make people happy by showcasing interesting incidents from daily lives.
“Who doesn’t like to laugh thinking about their own mischievous activities or some hilarious moments — be it from childhood, or something that happened to our friends? Pori Urundai makes videos of incidents that everyone could relate with. Whenever we sit down for scriptwriting sessions, every member comes up with interesting events that happened in their lives,” says the youngster.
When quizzed about the reason for taking comedy as the theme for content creation, Haritha tells us, “People think it’s easy to write comedy dialogues and scenes. But to be honest, it is a tough process. Only if a person has great life experiences, he/she could come up with witty dialogues that have satire in it. Moreover, the audience, especially youngsters, understand certain things when told in a humorous way.”
The team members include Dhanalakshmi, Lakshmipriya, Priyadharshini, Thangamalar Shanthoshri, Farheen and Haritha. Interestingly, they don’t take any help for the technical side as well. “We share the responsibilities among us and I do the editing for the videos,” remarks Haritha.
