Sportwalk is a sports startup based out of Chennai that is aimed at enhancing the fan experience through an array of products and initiatives across various streams. The team works with multiple fan communities, sports teams and sports brands across the country. For this cricket season (IPL and World Cup), they have come up with a slew of interesting activities.
Divakar S, the founder of Sportwalk, shares, “We are redefining the sports fan experience this cricket season with a couple of events in the city starting from this weekend. For that, we have partnered with Bharat Army (BA), the official supporters club of Indian cricket team, which is celebrating its 20th year during this World Cup.”
The BA began when four fans from different parts of the United Kingdom, who had been bumping into each other throughout the ICC Cricket World Cup 1999 in England, decided it would be fun to gather as many Indian fans together to watch the big clash between India and Pakistan. Since then, it has grown multi-fold. “This year, we are developing merchandise kits for all Bharat Army members who are attending the World Cup — a kit including a comic book, tournament programme and tour guide. It’s a big project and we have completed the design phase and now are moving to the production stage. Bharat Army is also launching a campaign called Madras to Manchester to engage the cricket fans in Chennai ahead of and during the upcoming cricket World Cup. Interestingly, Chennai is the first city that Bharat Army is doing an on-ground activation like this,” he explains.
Apart from this Sportwalk is organising a cricket quiz event, titled Powerplay — Ultimate Cricket Quiz. “Bharat Army Highlights is the first of its kind sports fan festival in India bringing people together through a series of events to celebrate sports. The inaugural edition of Highlights Fest was organised last summer featuring eight events across two weekends with an overall footfall of 1100. The second edition is even bigger with a wider variety of events spread across five weekends in April and May. The first event will be the cricket quiz that’s spread across five days. Four quarters will be held on April 6, 7, 21, 27 with top teams from each quarter qualifying for the finals on May 5,”
