In their petition, doctors attached to the Ayush Medical Welfare Association (AMA) claimed that Siddha can treat AIDS. “RAN (Rasagandhi Mezheghu, Amukkara Suranam, Nellikai legiyam) is a proven formulation to treat the virus. The government should treat the HIV-infected pregnant woman with it,” they said.
Speaking to DT Next, Senthamizh Selvan, President, AMA, said RAN formulation was tested successfully in 1998 by the State government, when 100 HIV patients were cured of the disease.
“However, the treatment of AIDS depends on the stages of the disease. RAN can stop the disease up to stage three,” he said.
He also said that under Siddha, a prescribed method of examination is done. “A urine test in first performed. Unlike allopathy, the patient’s urine is collected in an earthen ware. A drop of sesame oil should be added to it under sunlight,” Senthamizh Selvan said, adding that eight types of body tests should be done along with the urine test to confirm the disease progression.
“If the HIV-infected woman is made to undergo the tests as per Siddha, the stage of the disease can be confirmed. Treatment can be commenced at the earliest,” said Senthamizh Selvan.
