The city, especially norther Tamil Nadu, is expected to receive heavy rainfall in the next 48 hours because of a low pressure which is likely to develop in Bay of Bengal on Friday.
According to the latest bulletin from the weather office, heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and south interior Tamil Nadu during the next 24 hours. Other areas may experience light rainfall.
The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 32 and 25 degrees Celsius respectively.
A senior official from the weather department said that a new low pressure is expected to form in Bay of Bengal during the next two days.
“An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over adjoining Gulf of Thailand. It is likely to emerge into Andaman Sea and under its influence a low pressure area may develop over Bay of Bengal during next 48 hours. The system is expected to move west-north-westwards and intensify further”, he said.
Fishermen have been warned of strong winds blowing at 35 to 45 kilometre per hour from the north-east along and off North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts in the next 24 hours.
