On the first day of continuous rain during the monsoon on Wednesday, the motorists had a tough time wading through the inundated rainwater in major arterial roads.
Meanwhile, the Greater Chennai Corporation’s monsoon control room started receiving calls from residents. “On Wednesday, the control room received 17 calls. All the calls were regarding water stagnation,” a Chennai Corporation official said. The control room is functioning from the Ripon Buildings.
According to the official, out of the 17 complaints, one complaint was regarding Metrowater. “Metrowater has posted their assistant engineer to coordinate with Chennai Corporation to attend to the complaints. Once the complaints were received in the control room, the details were forwarded to respective zones or Metrowater to rectification,” the official added.
Residents can forward their rain-related complaints to the control room’s WhatsApp number 9445477205, and telephone numbers -- 044 25384510, 25384520, 25384530 and 25384540. “All the 17 complaints received on Wednesday were through telephone numbers. But the residents can also send complaints through WhatsApp,” the official said.
