A 24-year-old man who called the police control room to warn about possible bomb blast on a Delhi-bound train was arrested for making the hoax call.
Around 12.40 am on Wednesday, the police control received a call from his number. The called said bombs have been planted on S11 and S13 coaches of Tamil Nadu Express which departed to New Delhi from Chennai Central at 10.30 pm on Tuesday.
After the alert was forwarded to the authorities concerned, the train was stopped at Vijayawada and checked by bomb disposal squad. Meanwhile, police traced the number to Periamet, and Kilpauk Assistant Commissioner and Periamet sub-inspector secured Imrankhan from his guest house.
During the inquiry, Imrankhan reportedly claimed to have overheard two men talking about bombs being placed on Tamil Nadu Express when he was travelling in an Electric Multiple Unit to Pattaravakkam. As they remain unconvinced with his explanation, police grilled him further and remanded him in judicial custody.
