An unidentified man threw chilli powder on a jewel shop owner and escaped with a six-sovereign chain in Tiruvottiyur on Tuesday.
A man, wearing a cap, entered the shop in the guise of buying jewels. When the shop owner Bhagatram Choudry was showing him different designs of chains, the man suddenly threw chilli powder on Bhagatram Choudry’s face.
The shop owner, who did not anticipate this, struggled for a while and when he managed to open his eyes, he found the man running away with jewels. He chased him, shouting for help, but in vain. Based on his complaint, the Tiruvottiyur police have registered a case and have collected CCTV footage from the shop. The robber’s face was not visible in the video as he covered his face with the cap.
Meanwhile, burglars looted 25 sovereigns from a savouries’ shop owner’s house in Porur on Tuesday. Police said that Vasanthi locked the house on Wireless Station Road in Porur and went to give lunch for her husband Selvam, who was at the shop. Meanwhile, their son Rakesh reached home and was shocked to see the door broken open. He found the valuables stolen and informed his parents. Based on Selvam’s complaint, the SRMC police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
