Chennaiites can gear up for some pleasant weather over a few days as the weathermen have forecasted occasional rainfall over the next two days.
“The city will receive occasional rains in the next 48 hours. In the next 24 hours, the Coastal areas will receive rains. Later the rain bearing clouds will bring rain to the interior parts of the State in the coming days,” said the deputy director general of Meteorology S Balachandran.
“The conditions are becoming favorable for the commencement of Northeast monsoon rains over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and adjoining areas of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka during the next 48 hours,” said Balachandran.
The cyclonic circulation over west-central Bay of Bengal and neighborhood changed as an upper air cyclonic circulation over West-Central and adjoining Northwest Bay and coastal areas of South Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday.
The trough in easterlies now runs as a trough of low at mean sea level from Southwest Bay of Bengal to North Bay of Bengal and extends up to 1.5 kilometers above mean sea level.
In the last 24 hours, Ennore, Kelambakkam, Mahabalipuram and Chennai received 1 cm of rainfall each.
Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 30 and 24 degree Celsius respectively.
Warning to fishermen
A special warning has been issued to fishermen advising not to venture into the sea areas during the next 12 hours.
Strong winds mainly from Northeasterly direction speed reaching 35-45 kmph gusting to 50 kmph likely along and off North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts. Also, strong winds from Northerly direction speed reaching 35-45 kmph likely along and off South Tamil Nadu coast.
The squally weather likely to prevail over North and adjoining West Central Bay of Bengal.
