The ASI team led by South Zone Director M Nambirajan and Idol Wing police led by ADSP Rajaraman checked 41 idols to ascertain if they were made of pure panchaloham. Subsequently, the team inspected 19 idols at Punnai Nallur Mariamman temple and inquired with the HR&CE officials that lasted for more than five hours.
Meanwhile, the archaeological and metallurgical experts re-commenced the inspection of the ancient idols kept at the Pasupatheeswarar temple in Pandanallur. The temples that dates back to more than 1,000 years has been the depository for bronze idols from the temples situated in 73 villages nearby.
These idols are taken out from safe custody during festivals and deposited back in the safe. According to Idol Wing officers, the ASI team had already inspected 191 of the 382 idols deposited in the Pasupatheeswarar temple. Now in the second phase, the remaining idols are being inspected for their genuineness and the material used to make them.
