He was identified as A Sivanesan of West Mambalam. He visited Abiramapuram police station, along with a woman Sahana, in a car with police sticker and a blue beacon.
Sivanesan introduced himself as Interpol Deputy Commissioner and a close friend of ADGP Manjunathan to the inspector.
While the inspector did not suspect him initially, as the conversation progressed he realised that he was not an IPS officer. However, the inspector, without directly jumping the gun, continued the conversation during which Sivanesan claimed that he graduated in Social Work from Madras Christian College and in Criminology from Madras University. Then, he demanded the inspector to favour a woman in a case. When the inspector asked him for the identity card, Sivanesan told the officer that he has left it at home.
When grilled further, Sivanesan admitted that he was not an IPS officer and surrendered. Ganja was also seized from his vehicle.
After preliminary inquiry, police said that Sivanesan’s father Ashok Kumar died on duty at Commando services, while his mother Valliammal is a retired Railway employee.
Police also said that he had been roaming around the city in the car with police sticker for the past one year. He has also seized gutkha products from petty shops claiming to be a police officer and distributed it to his friends.
The woman, Sahana has a complaint lodged against her as she occupied the house of another woman Zeenath in Kesavapuram, who is currently settled in Singapore.
